Here at Mantis Reefs, we take quarantining our fish and inverts very seriously to prevent the transference of any parasites, pests or diseases that can be severely detrimental to our animals!

Here you can find a small breakdown of our processes of quarantine and treatment the animals are proactively and preemptively put through to ensure you're receiving fit, healthy and disease free animals.

Fish:

All fish bought in are slowly acclimated to our quarantine system, which is kept at a temp of 27 degrees Celsius.

Once in our quarantine system, they're then slowly put through de-worming medications to tackle any flukes and worms both internally and externally.

Once this is completed they then are slowly dosed other medications and copper levels in the water are increased to prevent any incoming diseases or parasites.

We treat for the following: Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans), Velvet (Amyloodinium ocellatum), Brooklynella (Brooklynella hostilis), Uronema (Uronema marinum), various Fluke and worm species, internal parasites and bacterial infections to ensure you are getting the healthiest and disease free fish around!

The fish are kept in treatment once it reaches therapeutic levels for a minimum of 14 days, if anything is discovered the time in treatment or treatment periods may change accordingly. If you have a fish in treatment you will be informed of all actions and any time frame changes.

Once treatment period is completed, all fish have skin scrapings and gill samples taken for examination under microscope to ensure the fish are all clear! Then transferred to the observations system to recover and be fed up, ready for you!

Quarantine systems are bleached, cleaned and reset after treatment has finished and before every new batch of fish arrives.

Observation systems are a clean system were set up from scratch using dry rock, getting it matured up and only introducing fish out of treatment to ensure it stays sterile. This is where all fish go after treatment, to recover, be fed up and regain any possible weight loss from treatment.

We strive to provide you healthy well fed fish!

Inverts:

All the invertebrates that we get in, do not go through any medications as this will kill them unfortunately. Instead they're slowly acclimated and hard shelled inverts are scrubbed before entry to our invert system, which is kept at a temp of 27 degrees Celsius and kept separately in their own system with no fish whatsoever!

They're supplementary fed to keep them thriving in the system without any fish wastes or detritus to shift through. They are kept seperate for over 45 days to ensure any tomonts of parasites have hatched and starved. They are then transferred to another invertebrate only system ready for sale.

All invertebrates go through this process and are kept in all fish free systems.
