Harlequin Shrimp - Hymenocera Picta, are a extremely beautiful invert in the reefing hobby!
Know to exclusively diet on Sea Stars, they'll spend most of the daytime chilling in overhangs or caves, conversing energy until night fall where they'll stroll around the tank looking for any Stars to feed upon.
Incredibly useful if you've got a population explosion of the very common Asterina Stars, which sometimes can become "plague" like in population and some species can also eat corals. So these beautiful shrimps are a beautiful and effective way to make a dent in their numbers.
Best to keep one Harlequin Shrimp per tank however they can be kept in sexed pairs.
When Stars aren't available the shrimp will become inactive to converse energy and slowly starve, when this happens it's recommended to either capture and move along to a hobbyist in need or you can always feed the shrimp, legs from other sea stars (although many prefer not to do this).
Alternatively if you want to return the shrimp to us, you'll get 50% of your purchase back as a refund or store credit! Your choice!
