Peppermint Shrimp's are a very common crustacean in the hobby due to the Lysmata wurdemanni's diet and habit of eating aiptasia, often a LIFE SAVER for some in the hobby.
Their are technically multiple species of Peppermint Shrimps in the hobby, but it is only the wurdemanni's who are true aiptasia munchers, located from the Florida Keys, where the aiptasia also come from in nature. There's another Florida species from the Tampa region, Lysmata boggessi which is also know to eat aiptasia, however this species is NOT REEF SAFE due to being prone to picking at corals. Wurdemanni's are not known to do this and any other species of Peppermint Shrimps (specially Pacific species) DO NOT EAT PRIMARILY EAT AIPTASIA.
I work with the wholesaler/imports to ensure it's only wurdemanni's I'm supplying and they are only fed aiptasia, they will willingly accept frozen foods also. (can supply the other species if requested)
Care Guide:
Care Level - Easy
Diet - Carnivore - will readily take frozen foods when fed to the tank, will also spend its days hunting down macro-fauna and any dreaded aiptasias
Colouration - Reds/Pinks
Temperament - Peaceful
Reef Safe - WITH CAUTION (Whilst they don't always tend to, but they can and will eat corals if food sources run low)
